‘That would be super nice’ – Simona Halep wants new Slam milestone from Patrick Mouratoglou partnership
Simona Halep wants to add a hard court Slam title to her list of accolades and trusts that new coach Patrick Mouratoglou can be the one to guide her to that goal.
Despite going it alone earlier this year and explaining that she wanted to “experiment” with her game, the Romanian has joined forces with Serena Williams’ coach, with Halep and Mouratoglou publicly revealing the link-up last week.
Currently ranked 20th in the world, former world number one Halep wants to recapture her best form on the tour.
She said in a recent interview: “I really want to get back to the top.
“I feel like [Mouratoglou] is the best person to help me to do that.
“Of course I’m dreaming of another Slam because that’s why I’m working every day.”
Halep added in particular that while she has won big tournaments on hard courts, she is yet to win a Slam on the surface.
That is something the Romanian would like to add to her titles at Roland Garros in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019.
She said: “It will be super nice to also have that in my career.”
Halep’s best hard court Slam showing came at the 2018 Australian Open, before either of her Major triumphs.
There she reached the final, losing to fellow former number one Caroline Wozniacki in three sets that day.
At the US Open, the other hard court Major, Halep’s best run came in 2015 when she reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Flavia Pennetta.
Halep has since gone no further than the quarter-finals in New York, doing so just once in 2016.
