‘I want to experiment’ reveals two-time WTA Slam champion Simona Halep on coaching move

Simona Halep has decided to embark on the WTA tour without a coach for the foreseeable future as she looks to try something new by forging her way independently.

Following the Australian Open, the two-time Slam champion split from Adrian Marcu and Daniel Dobre having rehired them when she finished working with Darren Cahill on September last year.

But those partnerships have proved to be short lived as Halep will now go forward without a coach at all.

After denying rumours she could work with Piotr Sierzputowski, former coach to 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek, Halep confirmed the news of the coaching split with Romanian media.

“I confirm that I broke up with Mr. Marcu and Mr. Dobre, but I would not want to discuss why I chose that,” she told Treizecizero (translated as 30-0).

“We didn’t argue. Nothing like that. We are and remain friends. That’s how I felt it was better for me. They know why I decided that, and that’s enough.

“I did not break up with Mr. Marcu and Mr. Dobre to start with someone else, that’s the idea.

“Now is a time when I want to take responsibility, to strengthen myself as a person, and I want to experiment.

“Let me see how much I can do on my own. ”

The former world number one is set to play the upcoming WTA 500 Dubai Tennis Championships and the WTA 1000 Qatar Open in Doha beginning 14th and 20th February respectively.

She has won both events before, Dubai in 2020 and 2015 and Doha in 2014.
