Matteo Berrettini confirms he is ‘healthy’ despite tournament withdrawal
Matteo Berrettini has elected to skip playing the ATP 250 tournament in Munich next week, but has reassured fans that it is not due to another injury setback.
Berrettini spent nearly seven months on the sidelines after going over on his ankle at the US Open, resulting in the Italian being taken off in a wheelchair.
However, since returning to action Berrettini has reached a hard court Challenger final in Phoenix and most recently won his first title since June 2022 on the clay courts of Marrakech.
As a result of winning his eighth career title, the former Wimbledon finalist has climbed back inside the top 100 and appears ready to play a busy clay court season.

Berrettini, who wears the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9 shoes on court, headed straight from winning the title in Marrakech to the Monte Carlo Masters, but suffered a first round defeat at the hands of Miomir Kecmanovic.
The world No.84 was scheduled to head to Munich next, but released a statement on social media confirming that he would be taking a week off from competing.
“After the result in Monte-Carlo, I was very excited and eager to get back on court in Munich,” Berrettini said on Instagram. “However, my team felt it was most beneficial to my comeback and season to have another short training block ahead of the tournaments in Madrid and Rome.”
He continued, “I am healthy and feel good, and I can’t wait to get back on-court in Madrid. Very sorry to the tournament and tennis fans in Munich. Thanks for the support and see you all soon.“
