WATCH: Nick Kyrgios pulls off outrageous trick serve on Australian Open return
As he always does, Nick Kyrgios thoroughly entertained the crowd as he kicked off his 2022 season in style.ย
The Aussie showman faced British qualifier Liam Broady in his first match since the Laver Cup in September.
And of course, just two games into the matches, Kyrgios pulled out this ridiculous underarm serve, winning the point as Broady’s return sailed long.

The world number 115 then eased through the remainder of the match, claiming victory 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in under two hours.
Kyrgios is not the only ATP pro fond of the underarm serve, and he is not the first to attempt on through the legs either.
At Eastbourne last year, fellow maverick Alexander Bublik attempted no less than eight underarm serves in his match against Lorenzo Sonego, including one from between his legs.
This Australian Open result will be a welcome relief to Kyrgios fans after the their home favourite missed two ATP 250 events, the Melbourne Summer Set and Sydney Tennis Classic, due to asthma and contracting Covid respectively.
Despite the latter infection being announced by Kyrgios just a week before the Australian Open, he was clearly able to recover quickly and make an unlikely appearance at the Major.
Kyrgios is grateful to be playing this year’s event, as he said after the win, telling the crowd “i’m just super happy to be here again.”
Next in the way of Kyrgios is 2021 Melbourne finalist and US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.
While Kyrgios does hold a 2-0 head-to-head over Medvedev, both victories came in 2019, before the Russian reached his maiden Slam final at that year’s US Open.
Medvedev has since reached a further two Major finals at the 2021 Australian Open and US Open, winning in New York, as well as clinching four Masters 1000 titles, and ATP Finals crown in 2020, and achieving a career-high ranking of world number two.
