‘For me it’s better’ – Carlos Alcaraz says home support is helpful, not pressuring influence
Carlos Alcaraz appreciates the backing he receives from Spanish crowds, seeing them as a motivation more than a pressure.
Carlos Alcaraz spoke ahead of the Barcelona Open, saying that he enjoys playing for home crowds.
“For me it’s better to play here with my people who are supporting me,” Alcaraz told ATP Tennis TV. “At home as well. So, I don’t have pressure to play [well] here. For me it’s better.”
Alcaraz recently made an impressive run to the semi-finals of another Spanish tournament, the Andalucia Open in Marbella. He defeated Nikola Milojevic, Feliciano Lopez and Casper Ruud before falling to compatriot Jaume Munar.
The topic of conversation then shifted to all the attention around Alcaraz at the moment. The youngster had this to say on the subject:
“I try not to think [too much] about [all the attention I am getting]. I try to just stay focused on me, on my team, training myself. I just see the social media as [not too much of a distraction]. I still focus on me.”
“Always you have to see something [said or written about you] but not too much.”
Carlos Alcaraz plays first against Frances Tiafoe. Read more about what Alcaraz had to say about playing in Barcelona.
