WTA Adelaide International 1 2022 Tournament Preview
This opening event of the 2022 WTA calendar is full to the brim with talent including Slam champions Ashleigh Barty, Iga Swiatek and Victoria Azarenka to name a few.
Australian native Barty returns to action for the first time since cutting her 2021 season short following the US Open as she gears up for a crack at her home Slam.
Dates
The WTA Adelaide International main draw runs from 3-9th January. Viewers can tune in to matches and replays on Amazon Prime, depending on location.
Players
The draw consists of 30 players with the top two seeds receiving a bye to the second round.
Those seeds are world number one Barty and world number two Aryna Sabalenka respectively.
2021 breakthrough talents Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa are seeded third and fourth, with 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek fifth.
2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin is seeded sixth as she returns to action for the first time since Wimbledon.
Finally, 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, two-time Slam champions Petra Kvitova and Victoria Azarenka, plus teen sensation Coco Gauff join an incredibly strong draw for this WTA 500 event.

Barty will face Gauff in her first match if the young American defeats her qualifier opponent in the first round.

Badosa takes on Azarenka in the opening round, an example of just how stacked the field is.
Meanwhile Fernandez and Swiatek will likely face off in the second round, and Sabalenka and 2018 WTA Finals champion Elina Svitolina could meet in the quarter-finals.
