“For sure she [Bejlek] has a tricky style of game so I needed to adjust to that and feel a bit what she does on forehand and backhand,” Swiatek said during her on-court interview with TNT Sports.

“She mixed up the rhythm quite well, so for sure it was not easy.”

The Polish superstar, a six-time major champion, then discussed her approach to playing a left-handed player like Bejlek.

“It depends on the opponent and if she is using the fact she is a lefty or not,” said Swiatek.

“For sure, Sara served a lot today to the backhand and slicing a lot, so I had to get used to the different spin and react a bit differently.”

Swiatek concluded the interview by discussing the adjustments she has made under coach Francisco Roig.

Roig joined Swiatek’s team in early April, following the departure of Austrian coach Wim Fissette.

Fissette has since joined Victoria Mboko’s coaching staff.

“I spent a week in Mallorca which is amazing,” Swiatek said of her time with Roig. “Starting the clay court season gave me a lot of energy and motivation.

“With Francis I am happy, we speak the same language and he wants the same stuff from my game that I wish to play, so it fits perfectly.

“We practice a bit differently, because with every coach there’s a different style of practice, at first I needed to adjust to that but I think I can take more and more from Francis.”

Iga Swiatek’s big test in Paris

As mentioned previously, Swiatek could face 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the third round of this year’s event.

Ostapenko has beaten Swiatek in all six of their previous meetings on the WTA Tour.

Ostapenko’s last victory against the 24-year-old Polish superstar occurred at the 2025 Stuttgart Open.

The Latvian defeated Swiatek 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, before going on to win the title in Germany.
