Iga Swiatek crashed out of the Miami Open with a surprise loss to Magda Linette at the Miami Open.
Swiatek is yet to hit top form in 2026 and that was compounded by her sixth defeat of the season already in Miami.
The Pole lost in three sets to her compatriot Linette, despite taking the first set dominantly by a 6-1 scoreline.
After yet another defeat in 2026, Swiatek made several worrying statements following her latest tournament exit.

Iga Swiatek is brutally frank about her game after Miami defeat
Speaking in her Miami Open press conference, Swiatek cut a bemused figure after being knocked out of the tournament.
“It just was a bad match from me in the second and third sets. For sure, it’s tough to handle that when I know I played well in the first.
Do you think Iga Swiatek will win a Grand Slam this season?
“I just, I don’t know, unconsciously or consciously, it’s hard for me to change things and then my tennis kind of collapses. I haven’t felt like this in, I don’t know, probably over five years.”
Swiatek lost a first round match for the first time since 2021 as she continued her poor start to the 2026 season.
The Pole is well aware of the pressure she is under following her defeat in Miami and she’s prepared to work to get back to the top.
“Dropping this much in matches. I’ll just have to try to get my confidence back. I feel like I carry a lot of expectations when I’m on the court and I need to get rid of them because my game has not been good enough to have any expectations.
“I’m a bit confused, but I’ll just work hard to get it back. I know I have it in me, I just lost it for a second. This is the worst nightmare a top tennis player can have. Dropping in matches in level like this.
“I need to live through this and figure it out. I’ve always been an over-thinker, but lately it’s just been so intense. It’s hard for me to get rid of many thoughts I have and this used to be my strength.
“I honestly played my best when I didn’t think much. Now I make so many bad decisions that it’s hard not to think. The stress comes in, the body gets so tense, and things get much harder.”
Thankfully for Swiatek, she will now head to Europe for the clay court season, which is arguably her best surface.
Iga Swiatek hits worrying ranking low after Miami defeat
Swiatek had already lost her world number two place to Elena Rybakina following the latter’s final appearance at Indian Wells.
Now the Pole has exited the Miami Open at the first stage, she will not reach the top two again until at least the Madrid Open.
Who will win the Miami Open in 2026?
Vote now!
Rybakina is now over 500 points above Swiatek in the rankings, which could grow depending on the Kazakhstani star’s progress in Miami.
Rybakina only reached the second round in Miami last term, so she has a real chance to create more distance between her and the Pole.
Prior to Rybakina usurping Swiatek, the Pole had spent over two years inside the top two of the WTA Tour rankings.
