‘We’re a little scarred!’ Explains Billie Jean King Cup captain on odd Emma Raducanu injury
The Great Britain Billie Jean King Cup team have been joking about the fact that Emma Raducanu has lost all her toenails as her latest injury woe.
Ahead of the nation’s BJK Cup tie against Czechia on the clay in Prague, the world number 12 has been preparing alongside captain Anne Keothavong and teammates Harriet Dart, Katie Swan and Sonay Kartal.
When asked about her physical state, Raducanu replied strangely: “I have no toenails.
“[My feet] have just been sliding around a lot [in the shoe].
“I had a small niggle in Miami but now I have no physical thing.”
When asked about the overall BJK Cup experience for the British team, Keothavong said: “These weeks are different to what they experience at the usual kind of tennis tournaments and it’s really important that, as a team, we can create memorable moments.
She then joked: “I think we’ve been doing so, and we’re all a little scarred by Emma [Raducanu’s] toes!”
While Raducanu has not had the strongest results since New York in September, she has been hampered by multiple injury setbacks.
You may remember that at the Australian Open this year, having sustained painful blisters on her right hand, the teenager was forced into some unorthodox play in her loss to Danka Kovinic.
Later, eagle-eyed fans got their own glimpse of the injury from Raducanu’s social media.
