WATCH: Sebastian Korda stuns Carlos Alcaraz to exact Next Gen revenge
Sebastian Korda has ousted Miami Open champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Spaniard’s first ever Monte Carlo Masters match.
The wind played havoc with the games of both youngsters as their encounter saw no less than six breaks of serve in the opening set alone.
The match eventually saw 13 breaks of serve in total, including this one from Korda to stay in the first set, as the world number 42 took down Alcaraz 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 after more than three hours on court.
Both men were playing Monte Carlo for the first time, with Alcaraz looking to land his first win at the event.

The result levels the pair’s head-to-head 1-1 after Alcaraz blew Korda away in the final of last year’s Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan.
However, while that Next Gen Finals match does register as an official ATP win for Alcaraz, the exhibition event does not carry any ranking points, meaning Korda is up 1-0 in matches at events in that department.
Before this week, two of Alcaraz’s three career titles had come on clay, in Umag last year and Rio de Janeiro this season, meaning the 18-year-old was favoured to go deep on his Monte Carlo debut.
Meanwhile, Korda is no slouch on the red dirt either, having claimed his only career tour level title to date on the surface in Parma last year.
In addition, Korda’s best Slam showings to date came at Wimbledon last year and Roland Garros in 2020, falling in the fourth round on both occasions and only losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in that Paris outing.

Next up Korda faces the winner of Indian Wells champion and compatriot Taylor Fritz and world number 22 Marin Cilic.
Korda holds a 2-0 record over Cilic, with both wins coming last year, while he has never faced Fritz at tour level.
