WATCH: Revenge for Emma Raducanu as she ‘annihilates’ opponent
Emma Raducanu has backed up her first US Open win with a dominant display in her second round round battle with a recently familiar foe.
The British teenager came through her second round match with great ease, defeating Shuai Zhang 6-2, 6-4 in a little more than 80 minutes on-court.
The Chinese player actually beat Raducanu mere weeks ago. In her first match since Wimbledon, the 18-year-old fell to Zhang 6-3, 6-2 at the WTA 500 level Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose.
Raducanu has clearly since done her homework, as she played aggressively to claim a double break in the first set before securing it.
Her serve was exceptionally strong, winning 16 of 19 points behind it in the first set, as well as punishing Zhang’s second serve to the tune of winning 8 of 11 points when facing it in the opener.

“This is an annihilation” commentator Annabel Croft declared at 6-2, 4-0 in the match, with Raducanu up a double break.
Zhang did secure a lone break back to reduce the lead to a single break, but the Brit held firm to claim a fifth career Slam main draw victory.
She has not yet dropped a set in New York across five matches in qualifying and in the main draw. Her closest set was 7-5 in her second qualifying match against Mariam Bolkvadze of Georgia.
