France Tiafoe US Open 2021

WATCH: France Tiafoe displays cheeky skills on way to Stockholm quarter-finals

Frances Tiafoe is showing impressive form in 2021, with his play suggesting he is enjoying every minute of it.

The 23-year-old American has won more matches this year than in any of his other ATP seasons.

Tiafoe improved on his previous best season record of 28-27 from 2018 with his results at the Paris Masters last week.

Now, the world number 41 is up to 31 wins after overcoming Elias Ymer and Pedro Martinez to reach the last eight in Stockholm.

Tiafoe showed off his trademark style of free-wheeling play, including this underarm serve and volley in the second set.

Tiafoe then sealed the match with an ace in the second to win 6-4, 6-4. He will next face Dan Evans after the Brit ousted Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

“It’s going to be a great match,” Tiafoe said when he learned of his opponent.

“I hope you guys come and watch because Evans is a great player. He’s a good friend of mine and we always have battles. So, I’m excited.”

Tiafoe and Evans share a head-to-head win-loss record of 2-2. The American won their last meeting at the Miami Open this year in three sets.

Should Tiafoe defeat Evans and go on to win the tournament, he could rise as high as 30th in the ATP rankings.

That would be just one spot off his career-high of 29 achieved in February 2019.

Tiafoe could face fellow Americans Tommy Paul or Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals should he make it.

However, a more likely opponent would be top seed Jannik Sinner, who faces Andy Murray for a place in the quarter-finals.
