WATCH: Fabio Fognini secures landmark ATP win before fiery altercation
Fabio Fognini has claimed a 400th win in his ATP career after a battle in Hamburg with Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene.
Fognini defeated the world number 285 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) on a hot and sunny day in Germany, and the heat of the contest continued after the final point.
After shaking hands, Fognini and Bedene had a lengthy argument that included disputing a ball mark and questioning calls.
Eventually, the former world number nine was able to gather himself to speak about what it meant to claim a 400th ATP tour level win.
“I’m 35 and, looking back, I have to say this is a great milestone achievement for me,” Fognini said in a post-match press conference. “For sure, I am happy.
“My biggest dream is now to try and enjoy as before, running without pain, fighting to the end. Then I’ll decide when it’s time for the family. I know it’s going to be difficult, but let’s see.”
