Valentin Vacherot continued his unprecedented march at the Paris Masters on Thursday, defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight sets.

Norrie had been riding a wave of momentum after defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round.

However, Vacherot proved too good for the world number 31, defeating the Brit 7-6, 6-4.

In the Paris Masters quarter-finals, Vacherot will play either world number 10 Felix Auger-Aliassime, or Daniel Altmaier, who knocked out Casper Ruud in the second round.

The Monegasque star became the lowest-ranked player to win a Masters 1000 title earlier this month, after he triumphed at the Shanghai Masters while ranked 204th in the world.

Vacherot reacts to Norrie victory

After the match against Norrie, he reflected on his performance.

“That’s a really, really big performance,” Vacherot said.

“I think that’s my best match because even though I won way easier against Lehecka in the first round, today Cam was really tough. He just makes you hit a ton of balls, he makes you run. You have to be so aggressive if you want to win.

“So really proud of how I handled the hot moments in the match and yeah we keep going.”

Referencing Vacherot’s sudden rise in the sport, the Sky Sports interviewer asked: “Where have you been?”

Laughing as he spoke, Vacherot replied: “Before? Training, trying, working, everything possible. I mean, everything is clicking now. Just the work of many, many years since my five years in college, my four years on Tour.

“Pure work, and I would have never thought that it would all pay off this way, but I’m glad it does.”
