‘This is crazy!’ – Serena Williams elated by King Richard Oscar nods

King Richard, the biopic covering Richard Williams and his journey raising daughters Serena and Venus to be champion, has been nominated for six Academy Awards, and Serena is over the moon with the news.

The film sees Will Smith portray the father of the 30 singles Slam-winning sisters as they forged their way to becoming the all-time greats they are today.

King Richard is up for Best Picture, Best Actor for Will Smith and Best Supporting Actress for Aunjanue Ellis who plays Oracene “Brandy” Price, Serena and Venus’ mother.

The film is also nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Original Song.

“I woke up to this,” Serena captioned an Instagram post in response to the announcement.

“Our film is really nominated for an Oscar! This is crazy!

“From Compton to Wimbledon to the Academy Awards.

“Everyone can dream, and your dream can come true.

“Ok I am definitely crying this morning.

“Congrats to the entire film and crew.”

She proceeded to tag Will Smith and her sister Venus among others.

“Congrats to everyone I did not tag as I am so emotional,” she added.
