The 4 best tennis tournaments in the world, and the ones attracting the most prestigious players, are known as the ‘Grand Slam’ tournaments: Wimbledon, The US Open, The Australian Open and Roland Garros. Every year, thousand of fans prepare their visit to these world-class events. One of the most important things to do when organizing an international trip is thinking about the possible visa requirements of your destination. Depending on your nationality, you might have to apply for an Australia visa, an ESTA USA, or another type of visa.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious of all four Grand Slams, with a history dating back to 1877. The tournament takes place at the end of June each year and the winner is awarded with more than £2 million. Tradition is very important at Wimbledon. The tournament is still played on the club’s iconic grass courts, and players must still respect the all-white dress code.

US open

The US open is the final Grand Slam in the year and it is held in NY at the end of August. It is the continuation of the US National Championship, one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, which started in 1881. The US Open offers the highest prize money and it is famous for its festive atmosphere, with live music, celebrities, and the shops and bars which are available for spectators.

Australian Open

The Australian Open takes place in January in Melbourne and it is the perfect way to start the year. The tournament offers the possibility to watch world-class tennis during the warm Australian summer. Melbourne is a great destination for tennis fans, who can enjoy its beaches, as well as its rich cultural life and gastronomy.

Roland Garros

Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, was first established in 1891 and is played at the end of May each year in Paris, France. The tournament is famous for being played on a clay court, which makes balls to bounce higher than on other surfaces, and players need high endurance and physical strength to play here. That is the case of Rafa Nadal, who is the best player in the world on this surface, but many tennis legends have failed to win the career slam due to a defeat at Roland Garros.

Do you want to attend one -or all- of these events?

If you do, you should start planning already. Depending on your nationality, you should have to apply for an electronic visa. EU and UK nationals have to apply for an ESTA or an e-visitor visa to enter the USA, or Australia, On the other hand, from November 2023, citizens of countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia or the UK will need to apply for an ETIAS to enter the European Union and visit the Roland Garros Tournament, for instance.
