Shelby Rogers praises ‘unfathomable’ Ashleigh Barty achievements
Shelby Rogers heaped much admiration upon Ashleigh Barty after pulling off one of the upsets of the US Open with victory over the Aussie.
The two women contested a brilliant tussle which saw the world number 43 American triumph 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) in front of a packed out home crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“I want to speak to what she’s done this season,” Rogers expressed in her post-match press conference. “I think a lot of people are taking it for granted.
“She hasn’t been able to go home since February, you guys. That’s insane. I mean, she’s resetting on the road. She’s worked through some injuries on the road.
“She’s won five titles. She’s remained No. 1. I mean this girl is everything every player wants to be, you know.”
Including the loss to Rogers, Barty has a 43-8 win-loss record in 2021, and has claimed two WTA 1000 trophies and a maiden Wimbledon crown among those five titles mentioned.
She currently sits more than 3000 points clear at the top of the WTA rankings, and is approaching 100 career weeks in that position.
“But, I mean, yeah, she’s one of my favourite people. Anytime I get to give her a hug, I try to take the moment,” Rogers admitted.
“Man, she is a competitor, she is a fighter. I have so much respect for her.
“What she has done this year is unfathomable. She hasn’t been able to go home for the whole season, she’s won five titles, the level she brings every week is what we all aspire to do.”
