Shapovalov is out of the Olympics ‘for everyone’s safety’
Denis Shapovalov has become the latest in a series of major player withdrawals as he decides to forgo the Tokyo Olympics.
The world No. 12 announced that he has chosen, along with his team, not to take part in the Olympics this summer, citing safety concerns.
“Hey everyone,” Shapovalov opened a tweet addressing his fans. “After careful consideration I wanted to let you know that I will not be participating in the Olympics this year.
“Representing Canada means the world to me, but due to the current situation my team and I have decided this is the best decision for everyone’s safety.”

The announcement comes after Rafael Nadal also pulled out of the Olympics. In the Spaniard’s case he pointed to personal fatigue and managing his schedule.
