Rafael Nadal set for record-breaking dream exhibition event at home of Real Madrid
Rafael Nadal appears to have agreed in principle to an exhibition match at the Santiago Bernabeu, the stadium of football giants Real Madrid, an event that could set a new record for tennis attendance.
The iconic home of Real Madrid is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, and they apparently want Rafael Nadal to play a tennis match there on opening the refurbished stadium.
Fellow 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer would seem to be the first choice opponent for Nadal, but world No.1 Novak Djokovic could be another good bet.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer currently hold the record for the highest attendance for a tennis match, which they set at ‘The Match for Africa’ charity event in Cape Town last year, with an attendance of 51,954.
Despite his uncle playing over 200 matches for El Classico rivals Barcelona, Rafael Nadal is a long-time supporter of Real Madrid, so such an occasion would no doubt be memorable for him personally.
Rafael Nadal even appeared as a mascot for Barcelona, pictured below with his uncle Miguel Angel Nadal.
