‘Next week we start work for Australia’ reveals Emma Raducanu on new coach
Emma Raducanu has said more on her relationship with new coach Torben Beltz as the countdown to the 2022 Australian Open continues.
The US Open champion ended her 2021 season at the WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz at the start of November.
She will make her debut in Melbourne when Australian Open rolls around on 17th January 2022.
Now, following her appearance in an exhibition match at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Raducanu shed more light on her new coaching partnership with Beltz.
“I’ve done the trials with [Beltz] and we’ve been in communication a lot,” she said in a press conference for the event.
“But, I’ve just been doing a lot of fitness. Like, four or five hours a day of training. I start my tennis next week so he’ll be coming in and we’ll be working hard throughout the off-season into Australia.”
Following her US Open triumph, Raducanu decided to part ways with coach Andrew Richardson.
She then played a number of events without a coach before settling on Beltz.
The German coached three-time Slam champion Angelique Kerber over multiple spells, including for her two 2016 Slam titles at the Australian Open and the US Open.
“He’s a super positive guy and he brings great energy,” Raducanu added on Beltz’s demeanour.
“So, he’s someone who, whenever you’re around him, you can’t help it because it’s just infectious.
“I feel like that’s really cool to have in my team. [He can] constantly lifting the mood and I’m excited to work with him.
“I’ll get a better chance this off-season to get to know him better and see where it goes.”
Raducanu has one more exhibition event in 2021 at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi.
There, she will play olympic singles gold medallist Belinda Bencic on 16th December.
