Marta Kostyuk has reflected on her clay court season after losing in the Roland Garros semi-finals.

Kostyuk won two clay court titles in Madrid and Rouen before Roland Garros this year, and was on a 17-match winning streak heading into her semi-final match against Mirra Andreeva.

However, the Ukrainian’s unbeaten run on clay this year came to an end, as Andreeva beat Kostyuk 6-1, 6-3.

After a disappointing end to a very successful clay court season, Kostyuk has taken to social media to post a lengthy message.

Marta Kostyuk posts message on Instagram after Roland Garros defeat

Kostyuk posted a long message on Instagram after her defeat to Andreeva to reflect on both Roland Garros and clay court season as a whole.

While the 23-year-old admitted that she was disappointed, Kostyuk was taking a lot more positives into the grass court season.

Kostyuk wrote, “I’ve been thinking about what to say after this tournament. A few years ago, reaching my first Grand Slam semi-final and not making the final would have felt very different. Of course, I’m disappointed. I wanted more.

“But I’m also leaving Paris with a feeling I haven’t always had: appreciation for what this journey is becoming.

“For a long time, I measured everything through results. Lately, I’ve been learning to appreciate the growth behind them, the people who share this path with me, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“This tournament reminded me how different my relationship with the game feels today. My first Grand Slam semi-final. Thank you to my team, to everyone who supported me throughout these two weeks, and to everyone back home in Ukraine. See you on the grass.”

Who will win the French Open final – Mirra Andreeva or Maja Chwalinska?

The final nobody expected…

Where will Marta Kostyuk be ranked after Roland Garros?

Prior to the clay court season, Kostyuk was the world number 27 and had only just returned from an ankle injury that she suffered in her first round defeat at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Kostyuk won 17 of her 18 matches on clay this year, and she will now be rewarded with a new career-high ranking.

She was already at her best ranking of world number 15 after winning the Madrid Open, and now Kostyuk will climb a further three places up to world number 12.

Kostyuk is in an even better position in the race to the WTA Finals, where she is currently placed in seventh.

The three-time WTA title winner is not scheduled to have much time off after her Roland Garros exit, as Kostyuk is entered into the Queen’s Club Championships on grass next week.
