Marta Kostyuk has just sent a real message to her WTA rivals by winning the biggest title of her career at the Madrid Open.

Kostyuk played out a tough battle with Mirra Andreeva in the final of the WTA 1000 tournament, but eventually triumphed 6-3, 7-5 after one hour and 21 minutes.

The Ukrainian is now a three-time WTA champion, and has just broken the top 15 of the world rankings for the first time following her Madrid Open success.

Kostyuk is not thinking about Roland Garros right now and is instead soaking up every moment of her Spanish success, which has arrived just after she lifted the trophy in Rouen.

Is Marta Kostyuk a dark horse to win the French Open?

Sharing images of her celebrations, Kostyuk wrote on her Instagram: “Speechless… Madrid champion.

“I guess dreams do come true.

“Thank you for all the incredible support.

“It’s been a wild couple of weeks.”

And tagging members of her team, she wrote: “Thank you to my team.

“I wouldn’t be here without you… and so many more who made this possible.

“You know who you are.

“Until next year, Madrid.”

The message caught the attention of her fellow WTA ace Katie Boulter, who commented: “This team,” with various emojis.

Eva Lys also added a heart emoji, while ATP star Jakub Mensik commented on the post with the words: “Too good!”

Mirra Andreeva thankful despite Madrid Open heartbreak

Madrid Open runner-up Andreeva was also quick to share her verdict on the tournament after a heartbreaking final defeat.

Despite the near miss, the Russian remained upbeat, posting on her Instagram: “Gracias Madrid, always such a special place for me.

“See you next year.”

Andreeva was classy in defeat, but she had little time to ponder what went wrong given her Madrid Open doubles final.

But the teenager suffered another near miss alongside Diana Shnaider, with the pair losing 7-6(7-2), 6-2 to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

The back-to-back final losses will be hard to take for the emotional Andreeva, but she looks certain to enjoy a lengthy run at the French Open given her ability on clay.

Kostyuk also looks likely to be a real threat at Roland Garros, which returns to Paris at the end of this month.

However, scheduled in the WTA calendar before the Grand Slam starts are tournaments in Rome, Strasbourg and Rabat.
