‘They’re loud clowns’ – Frances Tiafoe unveils ‘fun’ Team World locker room
Frances Tiafoe is enjoying the atmosphere of Team World on his third go around at the Laver Cup.
The US Open semi-finalist is joined by a slew of compatriots as the underdogs of the event look to land their first Laver Cup triumph.
After his loss to a dialled in Novak Djokovic on day two of play, Tiafoe spoke on what his teammates were like on and off court.
“I think everyone has their kind of funny stuff,” Tiafoe told the press. “Everyone gets pretty chill, to be honest with you.
“Tommy [Paul], [Taylor] Fritz and I know each other for so long, so we have joked for years. Then you have couple other guys. It’s funny, because everyone is such a different personality.
“Felix [Auger-Aliassime] and Demon (Alex de Minaur) are much more, you know, in-tune and locked in on a day-to-day process, not that we are not, but they go about their business definitely different.
“You kind of let them do their thing. Then the American guys are just like being clowns and loud, talking bulls**t. It’s fun.”
Tiafoe played the inaugural 2017 Laver Cup before returning again in 2018, playing singles against Marin Cilic and Grigor Dimitrov at those respective events, losing both matches.
Perhaps his most lasting memory of the tournament for the future will be his participation in the final match of Roger Federer’s career after taking on the Swiss and Rafael Nadal alongside Jack Sock in the doubles on day one of the 2022 edition.
