Leylah Fernandez rocks Roger Federer tennis shoes in opening Miami match
Leylah Fernandez wore tennis shoes from On Running against Karolina Muchova at the Miami Open today, the same shoes Roger Federer revealed last year.
Federer debuted the On Roger Pro, developed in partnership with the Swiss running brand, on court at the Qatar Open on his competitive return to the sport in March last year.
While Federer wore the shoe in his remaining matches in 2021, the shoe had a limited release for consumers to test the shoes themselves, but is no longer available to the public.
Fernandez, who was sponsored by Asics until the new year, now wear Canadian apparel brand Lululemon on court, but was still wearing Asics shoes before Miami.

While shoes will not transform a player’s movement and performance, the WTA Twitter account was impressed with Fernandez around the court.

It is unclear whether Fernandez was able to procure a pair of the On shoes via high up connections or if a deal is in the works for her to join the brand.
Both Lululemon and On are newcomers to tennis. Fernandez is Lululemon’s first ambassador in tennis, while On had no previous experience creating tennis shoes or equipment of any kind before partnering with Federer.
Federer announced in 2019 that he had invested an undisclosed amount in On, with Sportico estimating his stake at the time to be about 3%.
