Jannik Sinner could break a record held by Novak Djokovic in the coming months.

Sinner is the favorite to win Roland Garros this year, particularly as his biggest rival Carlos Alcaraz is not playing the tournament due to a wrist injury.

The world number one has been dominant throughout the clay court season, with Sinner winning titles in Rome, Madrid and Monte Carlo.

After Sinner won his first round match at Roland Garros, he has now won 30 matches in a row and is now predicted to break a tennis record held by Djokovic.

Chanda Rubin backs Jannik Sinner to break Novak Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak record

Djokovic holds the longest winning streak on the ATP Tour this century after winning 43 consecutive matches between 2010 and 2011.

Sinner is now 13 wins away from matching this, with former top 10 player Chanda Rubin backing him to do just that when discussing this record on Tennis Channel, with Alison Riske-Amritraj and Jimmy Arias appearing to agree with her.

Can anyone now stop Jannik Sinner from winning Roland Garros after Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal?

If yes, who?

“I definitely can see him taking the lead in this, because of how well he’s been and how well he’s started and obviously the last Masters events,” said Rubin. “But that’s pretty crazy, 43 even at the top to surpass that, I mean we’re watching history!”

“All we have seen from Sinner is improvement,” added Riske-Amritraj. “Every week we see him he’s getting better and better, and I think what’s so impressive and why he can have success on all surfaces, especially now, is because he is a sharp shooter on serve.

“I mean his targets on his serve are second to none, also he went 80% of first serve points today, 73% of second serve points won today, I mean those are huge stats and how are you going to counter that on top of him being able to return so well.

“He was roping first serve returns today and I just think when you are doing both of those so well…I mean he’s doing everything, what do you do! He can have success on every single surface.”

Jimmy Arias concluded, “You really don’t see anyone in his half of the draw that is going to take him out, you’ve got to believe he’s going to be in the finals.

“I don’t see anyone in the draw that can take him out when he plays at his best, so that’s 35 and counting, and he’ll probably play a warm-up tournament on the grass and then he’s not going to lose early on grass, he’s going to get to 43, he’s going to get that record and hurry up Alcaraz or he’s going to have 100!”

When could Jannik Sinner break Novak Djokovic’s record?

Sinner has confirmed that he is not playing any grass court tournaments before Wimbledon this year, meaning that it may take him a bit longer to break Djokovic’s record.

If the Italian wins the Roland Garros title then he will have won 36 matches in a row, and will be within seven wins of Djokovic’s record.

Sinner can match Djokovic’s record if he goes on to defend his Wimbledon title, but it is unclear as to which tournament he will be able to break this streak at.

After winning every Masters 1000 title this year, Sinner has a dilemma over whether to play the Canadian Open, having missed the tournament last year.

If he wins both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Sinner will have the opportunity to break Djokovic’s record at either the Canadian Open or the Cincinnati Open.

Sinner will still have further to go to break the all-time record, which is held by Bjorn Borg, who won 48 consecutive matches in 1978.

The 24-year-old will look to win his 31st match in a row against Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Roland Garros.
