Jannik Sinner will have a big decision to make later this year after winning the Italian Open.
Sinner beat Casper Ruud to win the Italian Open for the first time in his career.
This enabled Sinner to make tennis history, as he became just the second ATP player in history to win every Masters 1000 title after Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic congratulated Sinner after his victory in Rome, but the Italian now has the chance to achieve something that even the 24-time Grand Slam champion has not.

Jannik Sinner could become the first man to win every Masters 1000 title in a year
Sinner has won every Masters title at least once in his career now, and has claimed every ATP 1000 title so far this year.
As a result, he now has the opportunity to become the first player to win every Masters 1000 title in a single calendar year.
However, this would require Sinner to do something that he did not do last year and play the Canadian Open.
After winning Wimbledon, like many other top players, Sinner decided to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Canada.
Do you think Jannik Sinner could really win all 9 Masters 1000 events in 2026?
If Sinner wants to make tennis history that no other player has before, he would need to perhaps sacrifice some recovery time after Wimbledon and play the Canadian Open.
The 24-year-old has been given a boost this year, as there are three weeks between Wimbledon and the Canadian Open, compared to just two last year.
Djokovic’s best attempt at winning every Masters 1000 title in the same year came in 2015, when he claimed six titles and reached two finals, but did not play the Madrid Open.
Jannik Sinner has suggested he could play the Canadian Open this year
Sinner was even asked about the possibility of attempting this himself in the Italian portion of his post-match press conference following the final in Rome.
He did not rule out the possibility of him playing in Canada this year, with Sinner not playing any grass court tournaments ahead of Wimbledon, something he suggested could help this cause.
“Look, we have to go tournament by tournament, it depends,” said Sinner. “The most important thing, which I also said on court, is that physically you have to be well. If you’re not physically well, you’re not going anywhere, that’s why I thank my team on the physical side, from Umberto [Ferrara], Leandro, and Andrea Cipolla who are working so hard. For me the most important thing is the body.
“Then everyone plays well and it’s difficult to do those things, but one choice we made that before Wimbledon we don’t play any tournaments on grass, then if we rest before Wimbledon, after Wimbledon there’s a chance we’ll play in Canada.
“Then we’ll see, I mean in my opinion I’ve always been realistic, in my opinion it’s not possible to stay the way I’m playing for the whole season.”
Where does Jannik Sinner rank among the all-time greats after winning the Italian Open? 🤔
Sinner’s current priority is Roland Garros, where he can become the 10th man in history to complete the Career Slam.
The main draw of Roland Garros will get underway on Sunday, May 24.
