‘It’s been amazing’ – Leylah Fernandez releases 2022 pre-season update
US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez is eyeing the new season as she looks to step up in 2022, and she has a special partner helping her train.
The 19-year-old Canadian finished her 2021 at Indian Wells after losing to Shelby Rogers in the fourth round.
Currently ranked at a career-high 24th in the world, Fernandez will be looking to improve further on that status in 2022.
And the teenage sensation knows it is always a good idea have help along the way, as she showed in a recent Twitter update.
“Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of,” she begins over an image of her towing younger sister Bianca during an exercise.
“Training with Bianca and getting to share the love of tennis with her has been amazing.
“Enjoying every moment we get to spend together before the season.”

Bianca Fernandez is 17 and currently ranked 927th in the WTA rankings. Her last match came at an ITF $25,000 event in Ecuador at the end of October.
Leylah has not yet confirmed when she will begin her 2022 season, but she will almost certainly be targeting a strong result at the Australian Open come 17th January.
In her previous two main draw appearances, the Canadian has not progressed past the first round.
The benefit of a top 32 seeding will place her in a good position to better that result in Melbourne.
