‘I’m a big adrenaline junkie’ reveals Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu brought the noise in New York by claiming her incredible US Open title, and she loves to feel that energy off-court too.
The 19-year-old must have felt something amazing on her run at the last Slam of 2021.
After coming down from such a high, everyone wanted to give their opinion on Raducanu, her achievement and her future.
But the British number one is not phased by this outcome and understands the attention on her.
“I feel like people are going to have opinions and expectations of me,” Raducanu told Jacquie Beltrao of Sky Sports.
“But I don’t really think about that. To me, it doesn’t matter. To me the things that matter are [my own] expectations of myself and what I want to achieve and what I want to get out of the day.
“It’s just about improving and seeing yourself get better and I don’t take anyone else’s opinions into account except for my close circle.”
Raducanu is very much aware of the criticism she will receive throughout her career as a top player.
Moreover, her interests outside of tennis seem to align with her ability to deal with pressure.
“I’m a big adrenaline junkie,” the teen says. I have my driver’s licence but I’m a big motorsports fan so maybe [I’ll] get my motorbike licence, something speedy and fun.”
Raducanu has previously said she “thrives on adrenaline,” when asked about how she handles pressure on the big stage.
“Pressure is a privilege. I quite like it,” she added.
That pressure will rear its head again come the first Slam of 2022, the Australian Open in Melbourne, starting 17th January.
Raducanu will be making her debut at the Major, as a seed no less thanks to her career-high ranking of 19 in the world.
