‘He keeps it simple and strict’ – Simona Halep likes Patrick Mouratoglou direct approach
Simona Halep is a fan of how direct Patrick Mouratoglou is with his guidance as the duo look ahead to their work on the WTA tour.
The two-time Slam champion also acknowledged the obvious in why she looked to the Frenchman as her next coach.
Mouratoglou has coached 23-time Major champion Serena Williams since 2012, with the 40-year-old having won 10 of her Slam crowns by his side.
Halep said in a recent interview: “He spent 10 years with the best player in the world, and Serena [did actually] do better than before [with him].
“So this put him in the front row of coaches.”
Serena has won two each of the Australian Open and Roland Garros and three each of Wimbledon and the US Open with Mouratoglou as her coach, including three on the bounce at the latter in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Halep added more detail on what she likes about Mouratoglou’s coaching style, including how she is comfortable being open and straightforward with him.
She said: “I was able to open myself to him easily.
“We know each other pretty well already, which is a big step for me.
“I’m a very introverted person, so he made me open and I think this is a good thing for our relationship on court.
“He says few words, and you understand perfectly what you have to do.
“I like the way that he’s super short in what he has to say, but super strict and to the point.
“That matches my personality a lot.”
