Simona Halep extends season and joins Raducanu after accepting wildcard
Simona Halep has extended her season after accepting a wildcard invitation to compete in the WTA Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
The two have the possibility of meeting at semi-finals of the ongoing Transylvania Open, as they are both on the same side of the draw.
Before the WTA Linz, the current Romanian number one will make a competitive appearance in her home country for the first time in five years at the Transylvania Open.
Halep’s has been hampered by injury this season as Halep withdrew from the Miami Open in March due to a shoulder injury and suffered a calf tear against Angelique Kerber at the Italian Open in May.
This led to Halep missing a number of major tournaments including the French Open, the Tokyo Olympics and Wimbledon where the reigning Wimbledon champion was forced to miss the chance to defend her title.
The two-time Grand Slam champion is ready and eager to get back to her best. Despite this past year proving to be extremely difficult, both physically and mentally, Halep remains optimistic that next year will see an improvement in both fitness and results.
The former world number one is hopeful she can regain her form and reach the levels she knows she is capable of.
Hi guys, excited to say I will add one more event to my schedule this year.
Big thank you to the Upper Austria Ladies tournament in Linz for the wild card. I look forward to being back there!@WTALinz https://t.co/nKbIGKW26f
