Grigor Dimitrov ‘definitely not surprised’ to see Cameron Norrie reach Indian Wells semi-final
Grigor Dimitrov will face the Brit for a spot in the Masters 1000 final, and he recognises how well Cameron Norrie is doing this season.
The Bulgarian overcame Hubert Hurkacz from a set down, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) to reach a first Masters semi-final for two years.
After a tough season so far in 2021, Dimitrov is feeling good in California. He was asked in his on-court interview what feels different at the tournament.
“Good question!” Dimitrov responded. “I must think about that question, it’s a very good one.
“I don’t know, something about the desert I guess! Honestly, yeah, I feel different. I’ve been trying to get back to a good rhythm of tennis, a good rhythm of living.
“I’m pain-free [at the moment]. Waking up and feeling like my body’s up there, it really gives me a lot of confidence.”
He will next take on first-time Masters semi-finalist Cameron Norrie and was further asked in his interview if it surprised him that the Brit had reached the last four.
“I’m definitely not surprised to see him in the semi-finals,” Dimitrov said of Norrie. “He’s been having such an amazing year so far.
“He’s been playing great, winning very good matches, winning tournaments. So, of course he’s a very dangerous opponent, very crafty.”
Dimitrov and Norrie have met once before, earlier this year at the Miami Masters. Norrie won 7-5, 7-5 on that occasion in the second round.
