Auger-Aliassime Monte Carlo Masters 2021

Felix Auger-Aliassime back to winning ways at Rome Masters

Felix Auger-Aliassime knuckled down to win his first round encounter with Filip Krajinovic in the Eternal City.

Felix Auger-Aliassime has bounced back from an early exit at the Madrid Open with victory over the Serbian in over two hours and 40 mintues, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but failed to convert, having the chance again at 5-3 in the third, again passing up the win, before finally taking the match by breaking Krajinovic.

The 20-year-old Canadian recently added renowned coaching figure Toni Nadal to his entourage just prior to the Monte Carlo Masters. While his first match in Monte Carlo was an inauspicious first round loss,

FAA faired better in Barcelona, reaching the quarter-finals, before once again falling in the first round in Madrid, bringing his career win record on clay to 50% (18-18 win-loss record). This win pushes him over 50% once more.

Felix Auger-Aliassime will next face eighth seed and 2020 finalist Diego Schwartzman in the second round.
