Fabio Fognini shares his thoughts on Jannik Sinner’s Davis Cup withdrawal
Fognini has spoken in favour of Sinner’s decision to miss the Davis Cup and suggested it was a good career move for the World No. 2.
“I think it’s more than understandable,” said Fognini when asked about Sinner’s withdrawal from the Davis Cup via an Instagram Q&A.
In a post, the Italian veteran continued: “As a player, I understand his decision to finish 2025 on a high note and prepare for his real goals in 2026.
“He’s 24 years old, and he’ll surely have another 100 opportunities to fly our beloved flag high,” concluded Fognini.
Sinner has played the Davis Cup in the last two years, playing a pivotal role in lifting the trophy for Italy in 2023 and 2024.
Who is playing for Italy in the Davis Cup instead of Jannik Sinner?
Sinner’s Davis Cup withdrawal is a blow for Italy, but they’ve still got an incredibly strong squad for the Bologna event.
Lorenzo Musetti will lead the team after an incredibly busy schedule with his ATP Final qualification status on the line.
Rising star Flavio Cobolli, who has enjoyed a breakout season in 2025, as well as veteran Matteo Berrettini, will also make up the team.
Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori are among the strongest doubles teams in the tournament too, so Italy still have a good chance of winning for a third consecutive year.
