Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Miami Open due to illness.

The British star most recently competed in Indian Wells, where she reached the third round before losing to Amanda Anisimova.

Raducanu – who recently rehired coach Mark Petchey – was set to compete in the fourth WTA 1000 event of the year in Florida, but will now turn her attention towards the European clay-court swing.

Raducanu had been suffering from illness in February, and these symptoms have continued to hamper the British number one, according to reports on Monday.

Emma Raducanu is suffering from post-viral symptoms

Charlie Eccleshare, The Athletic’s tennis reporter, confirmed Raducanu’s withdrawal from the upcoming event on Monday.

He said: “Emma Raducanu out of Miami Open as she recovers from lingering post-viral symptoms, after picking up the illness in the Middle East last month.

“Another tough break as she looks to build momentum in stop-start 2026.”

It really has been a stop-start season for the 2021 US Open champion.

After crashing out in the Australian Open second round, Raducanu found her form in Romania, reaching the Transylvania Open final.

However, her form dipped thereafter, and she failed to win more than one match at the Qatar Open, Dubai Tennis Championships and Indian Wells.

Depending on the severity of the illness, Raducanu could make her return at the Charleston Open later this month.

However, if the illness is more severe, Raducanu may choose to take further time away from the court and return for the Madrid Open next month.

Emma Raducanu will lose significant ranking points

Raducanu performed well at the 2025 Miami Open, defeating Sayaka Ishii, Emma Navarro, McCartney Kessler and Amanda Anisimova on her way to the quarter-finals.

Following her withdrawal from the 2026 event, Raducanu will lose 215 WTA ranking points.

As a result, Raducanu could slip down the rankings.

She is currently ranked 26th in the world and the British star will not want to miss many more events in the lead-up to the French Open.

After all, further lost points could see Raducanu fall outside the seeded spots for Grand Slam events.
