Emma Raducanu’s Indian Wells campaign came to an end last week when she lost to Amanda Anisimova in straight sets.

After an impressive opening-round victory over Anastasiya Zakharova, Raducanu was comfortably beaten 6-1, 6-1 by the American star.

Ahead of the event, Raducanu rehired Mark Petchey as her coach on an informal basis a month after parting ways with Francisco Roig.

Raducanu recently admitted that she is hesitant to hire a full-time coach; and following Indian Wells, it appears she will have little time on court with Petchey ahead of the Miami Open due to the British coach’s media responsibilities.

Martina Navratilova has taken issue with Raducanu’s decision, claiming she has made a mistake.

Martina Navratilova identifies Emma Raducanu’s ‘biggest mistake’ has been working with too many coaches

“You don’t need to have a great coach all the time. Maybe somebody even part-time, which is kind of what she’s got.

“But you still have to stay consistent and get this person to get to know you, get the history and give them a chance to make a difference. You can’t expect results to come right away – that’s a long process.

“You need to buy into the coach and stay there for a little bit longer.

“I think that’s the biggest mistake – she’s been through too many people and then you get so many different ideas and you don’t quite know which one to stick with.”

Raducanu has had a coaching merry-go-round since bursting onto the WTA Tour scene in early 2021.

The British star began working with Nigel Sears in April 2021 before hiring Andrew Richardson, whom she won the 2021 US Open with.

Since then, many coaches have come and gone, including Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov and Francisco Roig.
