Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of Indian Wells, beaten in crushing fashion by Amanda Anisimova last night.

The British number one was not expected to win this clash, but a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline is indicative of just how far she is from the world’s very best players.

She now heads to Miami with plenty of points to defend, hoping to recapture the form that saw her reach the quarter-finals in 2025.

Anisimova spoke on court after beating Raducanu, naturally delighted with a comprehensive performance.

Emma Raducanu, meanwhile, cut a downhearted figure.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the 23-year-old admitted that she was completely unable to play her game, smothered by the power and ruthlessness of Amanda Anisimova.

Raducanu claimed: “I think in the second round today against Amanda, it was difficult to do that or even kind of come close to putting my kind of stamp on the match.

“And I think also that goes with playing Amanda, she’s that type of opponent who likes to put her stamp on it first, and that was very evident today.

“So, yeah, obviously, you have to take some positives. The first match here was better than a lot of the matches I’ve been playing recently, but, yeah, a match like that is never easy to take afterwards.”

Raducanu claimed she was not looking to hire a new long-term coach before this tournament began, and it will be interesting to see if her position on this matter alters should her fortunes not change.

Speaking in that same interview, Raducanu was asked how she felt after these two matches in Indian Wells and what she would take away from this tournament.

She claimed: “Yeah, I think I had a great first match and was in a much better place with my game. I think playing Amanda today, it was very difficult to take a lot other than starting the point from the match.

“I think she served well and returned and her ball speed was really strong, so I couldn’t really get into the rally I felt. So I think she did that really well and the ball just felt very quick to do anything off of and to try and kind of last in surviving the point was very difficult.

“So credit to her, she played a really good match there.”

Raducanu will likely drop a few places in the WTA world rankings as players below her remain active in the tournament, but she improved on last year’s performance of a first-round exit.

She will now head to Miami.
