Emma Raducanu ends marathon match in disappointment with more injury woes
Emma Raducanu has suffered more physical misfortune after exiting in the first round of the Zapopan Open in Mexico with a hip injury.
The 19-year-old was the top seed at the WTA 250 event and took on Daria Saville of Australia.
Despite serving for the match in the second set, Raducanu retired after a medical timeout in the third to see the match end 5-7, 7-6, (7-4), 4-3 ret. in favour of her opponent.
By that point the contest had already gone on for three hours and 36 minutes, making it the longest WTA tour level match of 2022 so far.
Raducanu has now played just four matches this year, with two heavily influenced by injuries.
After defeating 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the opening round of the Australian Open, the Brit battled with painful blisters on her right hand, her racket hand, while battling Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic.
Fans later spotted the still healing injury in a photo shared by the teen talent following an excursion to Singapore.
Singapore!! We worked, got stuck in (literally..), enjoyed the great culture, improved👷🏻♀️and had so much fun here.🦀Thank you to everyone’s warm welcome, you made it even more special. I’ll be back!!

Next up, provided she recovers in time, Raducanu will go elsewhere in Mexico to make her debut at the Monterrey Open, beginning 28th February.
From there it will be on to Indian Wells and the Miami Open in March as the US Open champion looks to land her first win at WTA 1000 level having made her debut at Indian Wells last year.
