Emma Raducanu ‘100% ready’ for next challenge declares former world number two
Emma Raducanu is more than prepared to exceed her Wimbledon achievements according to this former Slam finalist and top analyst.
Two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja is supremely confident in the abilities of the British teenager after she dismissed Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-0, 6-1 to secure a fourth round berth.
Raducanu is playing just her second Slam main draw, but has reached the fourth round both times.
She could even improve on her Wimbledon result by defeating Shelby Rogers to reach the quarter-finals.
“100% [she is ready for the next round],” Corretja explained on Eurosport. “First because she learned. Second because when she got to Wimbledon she wasn’t as ready as now.
“She has been playing many more matches during the summertime to help her understand the game, get different situations now get more confidence.
“Now she has been winning so many more matches here in New York, she literally destroyed the Spanish girl Sara Sorribes Tormo, she played so aggressive. But she couldn’t do much, the Spanish player.”
Since Wimbledon, Raducanu played three tournaments before the US Open, amassing an 8-3 win-loss record (including qualifiers).
She then came through qualifying to make the US Open main draw, and as such has won six matches in New York to reach the fourth round, all in straight sets.
“For Raducanu it’s great experience because at Wimbledon she needed to play for the whole country,” Corretja added.
“Whereas in the States she’s going to be more relaxed but at the same time she feels like she can do it because she learned a lot from Wimbledon.”
Rogers is definitely a more helpful draw than the alternative of world number one Ashleigh Barty who the American upset to reach the fourth round.
