Daniel Altmaier has taken to social media to send Jannik Sinner a message after their match at the Vienna Open.

Sinner looks to be taking the Vienna Open seriously and he began his campaign in the best possible way at the ATP 500 tournament.

The Italian dropped just two games against Altmaier as he swept the German aside in under an hour in their first round match.

The difference in class between Sinner and Altmaier was evident, but that hasn’t stopped the German from beginning the conversation on social media.

Daniel Altmaier sends Jannik Sinner a message

Altmaier has beaten Sinner before, but he had no answers for the World No. 2 as he was swept aside in the first round.

Nevertheless, the star was magnanimous about his defeat as he took to Instagram to send the Italian a message.

“Not the week I hoped for,” wrote the World No. 50 on social media the day after his defeat. “Too good yesterday, Jannik Sinner.”

“Accept and back to the lab,” added the German, before he made a bold claim about the crowd in Vienna.

“One of the best atmospheres in the world in Vienna, will definitely come back,” said Altmaier after his comprehensive loss to the World No. 2.

Altmaier defeated Sinner at Roland Garros in 2023, but he’s tasted defeat to Sinner on three occasions now following their match in Vienna.

Jannik Sinner’s route to the Vienna Open final is not easy

Sinner will be expected to reach the final of the Vienna Open at the very least, but he could have some incredibly tricky tests in front of him.

The star will compete in an all-Italian last 16 against Flavio Cobolli, a player he is yet to play against on the ATP Tour.

Should he get through that potential banana skin, he’ll likely play Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals. Bublik has beaten Sinner twice in his career, including at this year’s Halle Open in June.

Sinner will likely play Alex de Minaur in the semi-final, with a potential final against either Alexander Zverev or Daniil Medvedev.
