Jannik Sinner has been handed a tough draw at his first ATP event since withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters.

Sinner is currently playing the Six Kings Slam, where he will face Carlos Alcaraz yet again in the final of the Saudi Arabia tournament.

The World No. 2 is set to return to the ATP calendar with an appearance at the Vienna Open, which begins on October 20.

Sinner has been handed a tough draw and the World No. 2 will have to beat a player who knocked him out of Roland Garros in 2023.

Jannik Sinner’s tough Vienna Open draw

Sinner is participating at the Vienna Open for the first time since winning the event back in 2023, and the Italian will have to beat some tricky customers if he wants to win the tournament again.

The Italian has been drawn against Daniel Altmaier in the first round, a player who beat Sinner on one of the biggest stages.

Daniel Altmaier knocked the Italian out in the early stages of Roland Garros in 2023 after a five-set thriller went the way of the German.

Sinner did, however, get his revenge at the Shanghai Masters this year where he defeated the German in straight sets.

The World No. 51 has picked up some impressive wins in 2025, knocking Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the US Open and beating Denis Shapovalov at the Japan Open.

The German could be a tricky first opponent for Sinner, although his warm-up game against Alcaraz at the Six Kings Slam should be more than enough preparation.

The Vienna Open draw has some tantalising matches

The Vienna Open is often one of the more action-packed tournaments of the year, particularly with players desperate for ranking points to earn a place at the ATP Finals.

This year’s event looks set to be a corker, with several high-profile round one matches to whet the appetite.

Tsitsipas vs Lorenzo Musetti leads the way as the one exciting matches of the round, with the Italian looking to hang on to his World No. 8 status.

British No. 2 Cameron Norrie has been handed the difficult challenge of Andrey Rublev, who is looking to turn his form around.

Elsewhere, Alexei Popyrin will play Matteo Berrettini and Tomas Machac will collide with Flavio Cobolli at the European indoor tournament.
