‘Comeback on track!’ – Daniil Medvedev confirms tour return
Daniil Medvedev has issued a fitness update and confirmed he is set to play at the Geneva Open later this month.
The Russian number one is yet to pick up a title in 2022 but has nonetheless enjoyed a strong start to the year that saw him reach the world number one spot in the ATP Rankings for the first time on 28th February. He also reached a fourth Grand Slam final at the Australian Open back in January, with a run to the semi-finals in Acapulco also contributing to his 16-5 match record for the season so far.
However Daniil’s Medvedev solid start to the season was halted as the man from Moscow announced at the start of April he was out for the next 1-2 months due to a hernia problem.
The world number two last played at the Miami Open in March, where he reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz at the ATP Masters 1000 event.
Now, Medvedev has confirmed his return to the tour since undergoing surgery on his injury, as he is set to play at the ATP 250 Geneva Open next week.
Daniil Medvedev wrote “Comeback’s on track!” on Twitter as the 26-year-old replied to the announcement of his wildcard by the Swiss tournament.
The US Open champion will be making his debut at the Tennis Club de Geneve from the 14th-21st May as he hopes to improve his fitness ahead of the French Open the following week.
