Aryna Sabalenka ‘amazed’ by ‘unimaginable’ upcoming WTA Finals debut

Aryna Sabalenka will make her debut at the WTA Finals against Indian Wells champion Paula Badosa and is immensely excited.

The world number two is one of six players making their debut at the WTA Finals this year in Guadalajara, Mexico.

With world number one and Wimbledon champion choosing not to play the event, Sabalenka is the top seed.

Her status is apparently something the Belarusian could hardly have dreamed of.

“I couldn’t imagine one day I will be top seeded at the WTA Finals,” she told WTA Insider.

“This is something amazing and unbelievable. I’m really super happy with my level this year. I’m really proud of my team, what they have done for me this year.”

Sabalenka reached back-to-back Slam semi-finals this year at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Furthermore, she added two titles to her collection on the WTA tour, the 500 level Abu Dhabi Open and WTA 1000 level Madrid Open.

After Badosa, Sabalenka will take on 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek and world number six Maria Sakkari to round off her group stage campaign.
