Arneodo, Guinard make history with Monte Carlo Masters title

Monegasque-French duo Arneodo and Guinard clinch dramatic victory at the Monte Carlo Masters, marking a first for Monaco.

Romain Arneodo and Manuel Guinard cemented their names into tennis history by winning the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters doubles title, defeating Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool 1–6, 7–6(8), 10–8 in a thrilling final. This victory marks Arneodo as the first Monegasque player to claim a title at the tournament, a significant achievement on home soil.

The match was a rollercoaster, with Arneodo and Guinard dropping the first set decisively before rallying to win a tense second-set tiebreak and ultimately clinching the match in a closely contested match tiebreak. For Guinard, this represents his first ATP Tour title, while Arneodo secures his second, both achieving their first Masters 1000 title.

The defending champions, Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen, chose not to compete together this year. Gillé partnered with Jan Zieliński but lost in the first round, while Vliegen teamed up with Rafael Matos and reached the quarterfinals.

In another notable event, 45-year-old Rohan Bopanna became the oldest man to win a Masters 1000 match, surpassing Daniel Nestor’s previous record. Bopanna’s impressive run ended in the quarterfinals, where he aimed to extend his own record as the oldest man to win a Masters 1000 title.

Inside the Baseline…

Arneodo and Guinard’s victory at the Monte Carlo Masters is a testament to perseverance and the magic of home advantage. Their triumph not only brings pride to Monaco but also adds a compelling addition to the tournament’s rich history. It’s not often we see wildcards storm through a Masters 1000 draw and take down seasoned pairs with this much flair. Their chemistry, resilience, and ability to stay calm under pressure made for one of the most entertaining doubles runs this year.
