Andy Murray’s ex-coach sends message as he ends coaching role with Grigor Dimitrov

Dani Valverdu takes to Twitter after Grigor Dimitrov announces the end of their three year coaching relationship

Dimitrov started working with Valverdu 3 years ago when he was ranked No.40 in the World. After Valverdu joined his team Dimitrov rose up to an all time high of No.3 in the World in late 2017.

However, since the summer of 2018 Dimitrov has seen his ranking drop rapidly and he now finds himself at No. 46 in the world, his lowest ranking for over 7 years.

After the announcement was made Valverdu took to Twitter to thank Dimitrov and tell him he would always be around for the Bulgarian if needed

Dimitrov himself had taken to social media earlier this week to formally announce the split and there is no mention of this been an acrimonious parting of company.

At the age of 27 many tennis followers believe that Dimitrov still has many of his best years ahead of him but he has had too many spells of poor performance that have damaged his ranking and confidence. There are persistent rumours that off court distractions have taken their toll on his performances and his relationships with previous coaches. A string of high profile girlfriends have lead many to this assumption.

Dimitrov will now look for a coach who can help him get back to his best when he reached the semi final of Wimbledon in 2014 beating Andy Murray along the way before losing in 4 close sets to eventual Champion Novak Djokovic.

Dimitrov’s record

Winner of 8 ATP Tour titles including the end of year ATP World Finals in 2017 and the ATP Masters 1000 at Cincinnati in 2017.

Dimitrov has a career win/loss record of 290 – 185 with his best surface being indoors where he has a 64% average win percentage.
