Andy Murray hints at dream Serena Williams Wimbledon team-up

Andy Murray is confident he has lined-up a dream mixed-doubles partnership with Serena Williams for Wimbledon.

The former British and world number one has been looking for a woman to team with since announcing his return to tennis at Queen’s last month, and he now appears to be a simple confirmation away from securing one of the most prestigious names in the game.

“I am definitely playing in the mixed,” Murray told the press on Monday. “I have my partner — well 90 per cent sure.

“Is it Serena? Possibly,” he teased. “I just need to confirm it.

“I want to make sure before I say anything. I don’t want to say anything and then it is not true. I will know for sure tomorrow.’

Earlier this week, Williams opened the door for the possibility of playing with Andy Murray, saying that the only thing that could hold her back would be concerns over her ongoing knee injury.

“I’m available,” she told reporters. I’m feeling better now, so I’m definitely available.

“We just have to wait and see. I like to be tongue-in-cheek. Let’s see how my knee’s going. I’m finally doing good. I don’t want to, like, go back [in my recovery].”

The idea has also received the seal of approval of Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who added: “As a coach, I would say that [would be] a great move.

“First of all, she loves to play doubles. Second, to play doubles with Andy can bring only positives to her.

“Andy is great, she likes him. He’s an incredible player, he is super-positive.

“Why not? They have to just both decide and then let’s do it!”
