Andy Murray has announced an addition to his 2022 season which is a change from his usual preparations for Wimbledon.
The former world number one has had a predominantly consistent schedule ahead of Wimbledon every year.
Since 2006 and excluding 2018, when Murray played Queen’s and Eastbourne before skipping Wimbledon, the Brit has only ever played one grass event before the Slam, at Queen’s.
Now, that trend is about to shift as the 34-year-old has confirmed he will play the Mercedes Cup Stuttgart in 2022 for the very first time.
“I’m always looking forward to the grass court season, so I’ll start my preparations for it a little earlier than usual next year,” Murray said.
“I will be playing on grass in Stuttgart for the first time and I am really looking forward to this new experience.”
The Brit also retweeted the tournament’s announcement of his participation.
