Alexandra Eala and Victoria Mboko are one of the standout teams in the women’s doubles draw at Roland Garros this year.

Eala and Mboko are good friends, but have never played doubles together on tour before.

This was confirmed to change at Roland Garros, where Eala has already been handed a tough singles draw.

Eala has been predicted to lose to Iva Jovic in her first round singles match, and she will be hoping to avoid two early exits with the doubles tournament also taking place.

Alexandra Eala and Victoria Mboko’s first round opponent confirmed

Eala and Mboko have been drawn to play against another scratch pairing in Leylah Fernandez and Diana Shnaider.

Despite their inexperience as a team, both Fernandez and Shnaider have enjoyed doubles success before in their careers.

Fernandez is actually a former doubles finalist at Roland Garros, having finished as runner-up alongside Taylor Townsend in 2023.

While Shnaider, who usually partners Mirra Andreeva, reached the semifinals in Paris last year and has recently won the Italian Open doubles title.

Is Alex Eala ‘overhyped and overrated’?

Some fans think so…

Even if Eala and Mboko are able to overcome the pairing of Fernandez and Shnaider, they could then face the sixth seeds Cristina Bucsa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez.

Eala’s only previous Grand Slam doubles win came at Roland Garros last year alongside Renata Zarazua, while Mboko reached the second round of the Australian Open earlier this year with the aforementioned Jovic.

Who is Venus Williams playing in the women’s doubles draw?

Eala and Mboko are not the only big names in the WTA doubles draw, which also features 14-time Grand Slam women’s doubles champion Venus Williams.

Williams is making her first appearance at Roland Garros since 2021, but only in doubles after she was not awarded a singles wildcard.

Receiving direct entry to play alongside Hailey Baptiste, Williams will bid to win her first Roland Garros doubles title since 2010.

This is the second time that Williams and Baptiste have played together, having reached the quarterfinals of the Washington Open last year.

Williams and Baptiste will play the team of Miyu Kato and Giuliana Olmos in their first round match in Paris.

The doubles draws at Roland Garros will get underway on Tuesday, May 26.
