Alexander Zverev zooms into last four and third semi-final with Novak Djokovic in 2021
Alexander Zverev secured his semi-final spot in Turin and will face Novak Djokovic for a fifth time this season.
Hubert Hurkacz sank to three losses from three at the ATP Finals in the shortest match of the week so far, Zverev defeating the Pole 6-2, 6-4 in barely an hour.
As a result, even with one tie left between Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner, the standings in Red Group have already been determined.
Defending ATP Finals champion Medvedev will qualify in first regardless of his result against Zverev thanks to his head-to-head win over the German.
Zverev will then qualify in second place. That means that he will face five-time champion and world number Djokovic.
It will be their fifth tour meeting of the year, and third consecutively in a semi-final.
Djokovic leads 3-1 overall, but that one win for Zverev came in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, where the German went on to claim the gold medal.
Djokovic has since defeated Zverev in a five-set epic at the US Open to set up his final against Medvedev.
Morevoer, the two men have met three times previously at the ATP Finals. The first was at the round robin stage of the 2018 event, where Djokovic came out on top
However, Zverev then upset the Serb in the final to claim his first ATP Finals crown to date.
Djokovic then won their most recent meeting at the Finals, in the round robin of the 2020 event.
In Green Group, second place is still up for grabs as either Casper Ruud or Andrey Rublev could qualify with Djokovic.
