Carlos Alcaraz congratulated by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on US Open triumph
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have warmly congratulated Carlos Alcaraz on his maiden Slam title and achieving the status of world number one at such a young age.
The young Spaniard outlasted the field before defeating Casper Ruud in four sets in the US Open final, becoming the youngest ever men’s world number one in the process, the first to be under 20 years old.
Now the other two men to win Majors in 2022 have both praised Alcaraz for what he has done this year.
“Congratulations Carlos for your first Grand Slam and for number one, which is the culmination of your first great season, of which I am sure there will be many more!” Nadal tweeted tagging the new world number one before offering words to defeated finalist Casper Ruud.
“Great effort Casper Ruud! Very proud of you! Tough luck today but amazing tournament and season! Keep going!”

“Congratulations also too Casper Ruud for a fantastic season he is having,” the 21-time Slam champion added on his next story slide, recognising the Norwegian who is the only man other than Nadal to reach two Slam finals in 2022.
