Djokovic is “a little bit softer” says ex-coach Becker during revealing interview
The ex-coach to Novak Djokovic and Grand Slam legend Boris Becker is worried about his former pupils chances at Wimbledon this year because he thinks he might still be hurting from the French Open
Novak Djokovic is the favourite for Wimbledon but does he have the mental strength needed to go on and win the Championships? Becker says that none of the opposition right now has the ability to beat him.
Becker was speaking in his role as a commentator on Eurosport when he said, “Djokovic this year is different to last year. Last year was his comeback tournament, he needed to come back to number one and he wasn’t the favourite going in to last year. This year, he is the favourite but he is mentally, I find him a little bit softer than last year because of the wins he has had, because of the disappointment in Paris, he is not as strong as he was last year. He is hurting from the French, the question is, is the opposition strong enough to take advantage, as we speak now, it’s not.”
Djokovic plays his fourth round tie today against French ‘NextGen’ star Ugo Humbert last on Court No.1. In his 3 previous rounds he’s beaten Philipp Kohlschreiber, Denis Kudla and Hubert Hurkacz for the loss of only one set. Humbert has beaten Felix Auger-Aliassime, Gael Monfils and Marcel Granollers.
Djokovic is aiming to win Wimbledon for a 5th time and take a step closer to both Nadal’s and Federer’s Grand Slam records.
